Traditional vs. Implant-Supported Bridges

A standard dental bridge is used to replace up to three teeth in a gap. These prosthetic teeth are held in place by anchoring them to crowns fitted over the neighboring teeth.

When supported by implants, a bridge can be placed directly onto the implants, leaving the surrounding teeth untouched. The prosthetic crowns are supported by two implant posts at each end of the gap. The crowns are designed to look like the rest of your teeth in both size and color, blending seamlessly with the rest of your smile.

Unlike partial dentures, this dental bridge is fixed in place, where it looks, feels, and functions like your original teeth. You may use and brush it just as you do the rest of your teeth.

The Benefits of Implant-Supported Bridges

One of the key benefits is that the surrounding teeth do not need to be reshaped to support these bridges. Another is that the bridge prevents neighboring teeth from drifting into the open gap, preserving anatomy.

Most importantly, however, is the preservation of jaw bone density. Without a tooth root to dispense chewing pressure, the jaw bone begins to shrink in a process called osseointegration. Dental implants fuse to the bone and simulate a new tooth root, thus protecting your bone health, tooth alignment, and facial structure.

Revitalize Your Smile in King of Prussia Today

To begin the implant process, we must determine if you are a candidate for implants. We use advanced digital x-ray machines to scan your smile and observe your dental health. If bone density is too low for implanting, we can provide additional procedures, such as a bone graft, to prepare for an implant.

Find out if implants are the right choice for you by contacting our office and scheduling your comprehensive consultation today.
